Re: DslrDashboard

DslrDashboard works well with some provisos, generally due to poor documentation and a user interface that is confusing.

If you use the TP-Link MR3040 router to connect to your photographic camera, it works reasonably well, simply you lot need to be able to flash new firmware to the router. Once continued you utilise DslrDashboard on your Android device to connect wirelessly to the router.

You can use an Android tablet or smart telephone instead of the TP-Link router to connect to the camera, but of grade this means you need another Android device to talk to the 1 connected to the camera. Not all Android devices can connect to the photographic camera - they MUST support USB Host fashion using an OTG connector. The Nexus 4 for instance won't connect, but the Nexus 7 will. This seems to exist a mutual "gotcha" and is not the fault of the programme.

Once connected, leave Liveview and ready the Host Mode selection. Otherwise the camera settings volition be used for parameters that have a push button, dial or lever regardless of what you set. This can be frustrating if y'all are not aware of it.

On Dslrs such as the D800 (and probably more recent DX models - I can't comment), y'all demand to know whether y'all are in Stills Liveview way, or Movie Liveview - irresolute apertures etc on the wrong one will be frustrating. The program doesn't protect you very much from setting combinations of parameters that don't work.

The program has a swell bargain of promise and can add functionality to the camera rather than simply being a remote control. eg DslrDashboard has a "Bright Live View" push button. If y'all press this the current settings are saved, and you tin then adjust the settings to become a viewable screen. When you take a shot, the saved parameters are restored and the shot taken. This overcomes a trouble studio photographers had with Liveview when using lights (flash). The settings that piece of work with the flash may not exist viewable prior to the shot making focussing, composition impossible. I am certain that over time more features volition be added that "value add" to the bones features of the camera.

It already has timelapse, focus stacking, focus bracketting, alive histograms, focus peaking likewise as epitome review and other features.

For professional utilize I would say it is only useable IF you examination it out starting time, getting a consistent methodology to ensure the settings work equally you intend (and then echo this exactly on site). Otherwise you may find yourself in front of a client unable to change exposure, or focus. For enthusiast use where the consequences are mostly frustration and so it is very useable.

The writer is responsive and helpful and constantly improving the program. It is besides open source and perhaps we volition see other people involved in the development equally time goes on.

Regards
