He is not exactly a big talker.

That son of mine.

He is kind, thoughtful, and a human being of action.

But non necessarily a talker.

More of the strong, silent type, if you know what  I hateful?

And I don't heed information technology and so much that he doesn't say a whole lot. I tell him that'south fine by me.

He doesn't have to exist a talker . . . merely he does need to exist a communicator.

Not merely for my sake, but for the sake of his friendships and future relationships. Because even at the age of 12, this young man already knows he hopes to marry and become a family homo someday.

Just like his dad.

And marriage requires communication.

And parenting requires advice.

And friendship requires communication.

So this sweet guy of mine is learning to communicate. We're practicing now with our eye on the future.

And you know what I've plant? I've discovered that what works best is if I inquire him the questions.

He needs me to start the conversation.

  7.   What is your favorite Scripture verse? And why that one?
  8.  What things does your sis practice that frustrate (or encourage) yous?
  9.  And what does your blood brother do that annoys (helps) you?
  10.   What do y'all retrieve you'd like to exercise for a job when yous get older?
  11.   Why did that (movie, vocal, chat. etc.) disturb you?
  12.   What's the best thing almost being a part of our family?
  13.   What'south the hardest part about beingness a centre kid (or youngest, oldest, just) in our family?
  14.   What sorts of things in this earth make you aroused? Wish you could prepare information technology?
  15.   Can yous draw what the perfect day would expect like to you?
  16.   What would y'all say are your tiptop iii movies? And what is information technology about them that you like?
  17.   What skill exercise you wish yous could be ameliorate at? What tin can we practice to help you improve it?
  18.   What kinds of things make yous want to cry?
  19.   What character qualities practice you lot especially capeesh in a friend?
  20.   What do yous wish I understood better about you?
  21.   Do you know how much I love you?

And so I inquire the questions and and so try to listen with all of my centre.

Ask, and then listen…

Because when our oldest son left for higher and I asked him what was the most loving matter I've always washed for him as his mom?

He said it was that I listened.

I don't want ever to forget that.

So ask your son what'southward on his listen. What's on his heart?

Then listen to what he has to say.

Communicate and build a close human relationship.

He needs you, mom.

Sometimes more than he can say.
